Kevin Gilbert

Kevin T. Gilbert is a 19-year veteran photojournalist based in the Washington, DC area, where he has covered superpower summits, professional sports, national political campaigns, as well as the news of Washington and the nation. He is currently the managing partner of Blue Pixel, one of the country's leading digital imaging consulting teams, and President of Arkhaven Group, a digital production company shooting digital still imagery for corporations and television networks. Kevin has made his mark in the photography industry not only as one of the leading photographers, but also one that grows in his profession along with the growth of digital photography. Shooting the latest Nikon digital equipment and using the leading digital photographic software packages, Kevin makes his mark in the photographic industry as a leader in digital photography.

Kevin recently finished his fifth term as President of the White House News Photographers' Association (WHNPA), and is the winner of more than 35 photography awards from the 80-year-old WHNPA. The National Press Photographers Association, The Society of Newspaper Design, and the Maryland-DC Press Association have also honored him for outstanding photojournalism and design.

Kevin shoots a variety of image types, shooting both color and black and white. His love for black and white photography is apparent in his coverage of many of the political races. Great black and whites often tell the story and this view is evident in his photos with his dynamic black-and-white images.

Digital black-and-whites are a big part of Kevin's work. Kevin shoots full color, digital images and makes his conversions to black-and-white using an array of nik Color Efex Pro! filters, including the B/W Conversion filter. "Using the color information in a digital photo to create black-and-white is one of the most powerful aspects of going digital", says Kevin. "The choices you can make with regard to shadows, tonality, and detail make digital black-and-whites one of the most versatile aspects of going digital".

Kevin Gilbert's experience make's him one of the most sought-after speakers and photographic mentors, and his digital experience makes him even more rare. In 1999, Kevin formed his own production company. Called The Arkhaven Group, the company is comprised of award-winning photojournalists and editors, and provided digital still photography for television and film productions, to corporate sponsors on proprietary events, and provided promotional/advertising photography and digital/internet consulting services to corporate America. The group's clients included USA Networks, American Photo magazine, Turner Network Sports, Ford Motor Company, and Mark Burnett Productions (producers of Survivor, Eco-Challenge, Combat Missions).
