Lucas Gilman

Lucas Gilman

Denver, Colorado

To call photographer Lucas Gilman a "world traveler" might be inaccurate, or at the very least, incomplete. The phrase brings up visions of dining in Parisian cafes, dancing in Rio at Carnival, or walking along the Great Wall of China. For Gilman, it might be more apt to say he is an extreme nature traveler. Gilman goes to the kinds of places that take five days to get to, arriving at the nearest airport, taking a Jeep as far as the roads can go, then hiking into depths of jungle, out over plains of ice, down treacherous river waterfalls, and into the farthest reaches of the globe. It's what he has to do to get the types of images that he's known for - where extreme athletes are displayed in astounding natural surroundings.

Mammoth Lakes, California

Wildlife photographer Moose Peterson has been interacting with and appreciating nature all his life. Born in California, he grew up surrounded by nature, often exploring his local habitat with his family full of "shutter buggers." Growing up in the ’60s and ’70s allowed him to explore a California that, in the ’80s and ’90s, was quickly disappearing. Natural habitats were being replaced with new developments and the animals and wildlife were being displaced or forgotten, or worse yet, disappearing altogether.
